Review: Baoer 388

Baoer 388

The Baoer 388 is an extremely cheap fountain pen from China. I purchased it at SGD$5 for two pens. At that price it is even cheaper than a Platinum Preppy. The nib comes in a single size only and it is surprisingly smooth. The metal body gives it a durable and solid feel to the pen when you are writing with it. However the design is a rip off of the Parker Sonnet. I was told to expect the plating to come off.

Do note that the pen is way too back heavy if you write with the cap posted. The feed keeps up when writing quickly and the pen writes rather wet.

Two-tone nib

Pros:

  • Super affordable
  • Durable body
  • Smooth nib
  • It's so cheap, what do you have to lose?

Cons:

  • Plating might come off easily
  • Rip off design
