Intro:
This is the RB (Red Blue?) version of the TWSBI Diamond 580. Technically this is just a regular version of the TWSBI Diamond 580, the only difference is the red cap, red section and blue end cap and the blue sun symbol of the Taiwanese flag on the finial.

Packaging:
The TWSBI Diamond 580 RB edition comes in a cardboard box with the TWSBI logo in the middle of it. Inside, there is a clear plastic case that looks space age and sleek. This is the same packaging that the regular TWSBI 580 and TWSBI Mini comes in.

Performance:
Like the regular TWSBI 580, the RB edition is a piston filler plastic fountain pen. I opted for the EF nib since I had the fine nib previously. This EP nib is not scratchy and it is surprisingly smooth. However, my nib has been tuned by Sunny of the Straits Pen so this isn't a right-out-of-the-box nib experience.I particularly like the splash of colour that the RB version has. Though the colours is meant to reflect the Taiwanese flag, others may see the American or French flag in the colours. For those who wants one with the American flag, look out for it on the TWSBI website in August.

Conclusion:
The TWSBI Diamond 580 RB edition is an excellent addition to the TWSBI collector. It cost the same as the regular 580 so it isn't cost prohibitive like some limited edition pens from other brands are. If I didn't already have my regular Diamond 580, I would probably just have gotten the RB edition and forgo the regular one.

This pen is purchased from Straits Pen at SGD$65.

Pros:

  • A splash of colour
  • Demonstrator
  • Smooth nib
  • Piston filler

Cons:

  • None that I can think of!
